Welcome to the GOAL class. GOAL stands for Grow Our Agriculture Leaders. That is exactly what this class will do - grow you into an effective leader with the tools needed for success in the global economy. This course is supported by a grant from the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service of the United States Department of Agriculture, and Burns High School in Lawndale, North Carolina. This course is a lot different from any other course you have probably taken in high school in several ways. The biggest difference is your teacher is online and your FFA advisor is just that – your advisor. He/she will grade your assignments and give you input on your progress but it is up to YOU to complete assignments in a timely fashion and to the best of your abilities. Some weeks you will read lot, some you will observe a lot, some you will speak a lot, and some you will teach a lot. There really are no weeks where you can just kick back. Every week you need to plan your days and keep in mind when the big projects are due. Another difference in this class is your classmates are all over the world and you will correspond with them through the GOAL course BLOG. You will be setting up your computer to have live face to computer to face conversations with them. Don’t worry if you do not know how to do this yet – we will teach you. There will hopefully be lots of first for you this semester. Each assignment is designed to develop your personal communication skills to prepare you for leadership in the global marketplace. If you have any questions about how this is going to work send me an email at cbeam@clevelandcountyschools.org. You are going to love this experience and the rewards will continuously multiply in your life for years to come. Enough talking. Go ahead and click on the week one lesson: Components of Agriculture Education. When the page loads you will complete each of the learning activities – most learning activities are reading assignments. After the learning activities be sure to turn in your assignments to your advisor. Oh yeah – don’t forget the leadership moment each week. Plan ahead and do not get behind. Best wishes for success in this course! |
